3 Marketing Books Every Budding Entrepreneur Should Read
Marketing will be the essential part of any cohesive business plan. Many would then further say you then need to write a separate marketing plan / strategy.
Marketing can be daunting, in that if you have not worked or been in that field previously – the prospect of how to get your name out there and of going after clients is often daunting. The following titles are books that I found invaluable in giving me a solid base a someone with little background in marketing. Both inspirational and informative – the following titles are great for the budding entrepreneur!
Marketing on a Beermat by Chris West.
Marketing on a Beermat is a great little book on the subject. Firstly its fairly slim in comparison to other titles, A5 in size and around 200 pages in length. It’s a great one to carry around with you on the bus / tube etc. Chris West gives a strategic approach to marketing, that it is based on examples of different types of companies. This title made me think about the ways I was/ could be positioning myself so my message could be perceived by my clients in the way I wanted. I recommend this book to any budding entrepreneur or business people who need friendly advice and help with their company marketing strategy.
Principles of Marketing by Dr Stephen Pettitt
This book is a gem find. Many friends who are business students use this daily and it is almost a marketing bible. By reading the book you are creating a sound basis of knowledge and its all nicely wrapped up in one tasty little text book. The book excels by putting theory to case study, and case studies to questions, and questions to which only you can dream of the answers. A brilliant read, insightful, educative but with room to leave you to use initiative. 5 stars!
Marketing Warfare: 20th Anniversary Edition
The book basically defines 4 broad Marketing Strategies in a military perspective which depend on your current market position, the nature of your product and on the competition; Viz, Offense, Defense, Flanking and guerrilla warfare. Marketing promises should be as vague as political ones. Otherwise you will erode the effectiveness of your forces”, “Marketing battles are fought inside the mind. Inside your own mind and inside the mind of your prospects every day of the week.” Are just some of the quotes one can walk away reciting in their heads as inspiration and philosophy – a great read from an interesting angle!
